Un incredibile rosa ritrovata

Nel post precedente, vi parlai di come l’ illustre fotografo  Fabrizio Fortuna https://www.juzaphoto.com/me.php?p=63939&pg=allphotos&srt=data&l=it  coltivi gli Aceri presi da Philippe Smets.

avere a che fare con persone estremamente esigenti, che vogliano solo il meglio e, che stiano attenti a ogni singolo dettaglio, é super stimolante. 

Conoscere un professionista di talento é un onore, il rapporto é diventato  di amicizia.

Tutto nacque , quando  vidi un post in un social dove c’erano delle rose inconsuete, come la ’ Captain Christy climbing’ ( veuve Ducher, 1881 https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.960.1  e la ’Delacroix ’ . https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.60495.2

La prima é  una mutazione rampicante di un vecchio ibrido di tè, che accumula il meglio dei due mondi, la rifiorenza delle té e una Maggiore morbidezza rispetto alla goffagine degli ibridi perpetui.

In questo caso ha assunto il fenotipo degli ibridi perpetui, quindi: fiori grossi, carichi di petali, in stile peonia (per chi non conoscesse, lo stile delle rose antiche) ma  una maggiore eleganza, con arbusti meno goffi e dal profumo sontuoso.

La seconda dedicata al famoso pittore francese, é una rosa di un ibridatore moderno (Dominique Massad), che crea delle ottime sarmentose, in stile  ramblers, cioè rose particolarmente coprenti, con fiori dal basso, ma rifiorenti, a differenza dei rampicanti moderni che fanno fiori solo in cima, rami grossi e rigidi e che si spogliano alla base.

Mi colpì in modo positivo lo strano accoppiamento. Queste rose dimostravano un gusto diverso dalla norma, ma evidentemente, il vivaista, da cui Fabrizio e Sandra avevano comprato le due rose, non gli avevano consigliato come fare una buca come si dovrebbe, né gli avevano spiegato il distanziamento.

Quindi  non crescevano, sicuramente anche a causa di una qualità media delle piante  non eccelsa.

Quindi, io, come al solito, persi una buona occasione di starmeno  zitto :))).

Iniziarono cosí domande  a profusione,  cosa a cui ero giá abituato mentre facevo il consulente sulle rose  antiche per il super designer Matteo La Civita. Ero avvezzo alle persone

super esigenti, precisissime, che io adoro :) .

 La cosa più ardua era gestire la marea di foto del loro piccolo giardino, mi mandavano foto dove i punti in cui dovevano essere messe a dimora le rose erano evidenziati  con colori fluo, che per uno come me, disprassico , significa una  lenta eutanasia.

E quindi interminabili discussioni , che sfiancherebbero una persona normale.

Il mio DNA  é in parte inglese, come il tizio che beve la sua acqua calda e sporca di foglie secche alle 17 ...mentre bombardano Londra, ignorando tutto e tutti.  Con la stessa placiditá affronto  interminabili discussioni, anche perché Fabrizio é il tipo che in una notte ti legge  tutto sull’argomento dalla A alla Z.   

In confronto, un interrogatorio della Mossad é una friendly and warm chat with your pals ( amici ).

É questo suo lato terribile che adoro, e che secondo me é la chiave della sua estrema bravura, fissa dei parametri altissimi su  di sé e su ogni cosa che fa.

Con il prossimo pretende lo stesso,  e lo fa con  grande generosità e sensibilità da Attila :).

L’ abilità di un plant-hunter é capire, quando é ora di consigliare di rivolgersi a una  figura piú specifica.

Pensavo che per Fabrizio e Sandra le piante  ideali fossero le té e le Noisette, visto la loro resistenza al calore ( il suo giardino esposto perfettamente  a sud, a Marino, vicino Roma).

Non ci é voluto molto per indicargli il Vivaio piú fornito e serio della sezione Chinensis, il vivaio S’Orrosa che, assieme a John Hook ( La Rosaraie du Désert) sono i più grandi esperti di questa famiglia di rosai morbidi (e meravigliosi).

Le piante di Sergio Scudu, oltremodo rare , sono le migliori in  qualitá, non hanno pari in vigoria.

 Con  loro, si guadagnano due o tre anni di coltura rispetto alle stesse varietà vendute da altri vivai specializzati.

Il grande problema di queste rose  é che esse devono costruire la loro impalcatura di rami,  la quale funge da straordinario isolante termico.

Questo permetterà di lasciarla con una manutenzione, quasi inesistente.

Generalmente, queste, sono piante mal potate, di conseguenza ci si mettono anni  per raggiungere  dei buoni risultati. Le piante di Sergio Scudu invece sono di vigoria pressoché immediata, diventano degli arbusti strepitosi, a forma di cuscino, vestito di foglie sane.  Le rose  moderne invece  si presentano molto bene in vaso, specie quando le compri, per poi divenire inesorabilmente, pali con dei grossi cavoli in cima ( e qui Morticia Addams, si imposessa di me ). Sto esagerando, lo so, ci sono delle ottime rose moderne, ma spesso, non sono così performanti nel nostro clima. La sezione chinensis, invece,  solitamente si ferma solo a fine luglio, quando neanche la lucertola esce al sole.  Da settembre fino a Natale fioriscono più che in primavera, con tutti i colori dell’ Alba e del tramonto, con  declinazioni di colori  sempre diverse, sempre eleganti.

 A Fabrizio e Sandra, gli avevo consigliato ’Rêve d’ Or’,  Che Significa sogno d’ oro, o ancora meglio, sogno in oro. https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=5197

Senza dubbio la migliore rampicante, resiste al caldo più atroce, infatti viene adoperata ancora oggi come genitore da Viru Viraghavan  per creare degli ibridi che ristano e prosperino al violentissimo caldo indiano.

Ha un buona resistenza al freddo e buona tolleranza alla mezz'ombra e praticamente vive senza pesticidi.

Per me un  Consiglio di Sergio Scudu é oro, la sua conoscenza é il non plus ultra,  lui come ogni vivaista di qualitá é un pessimo venditore, alla quantità preferisce vendere la qualità.

Sergio dà a Fabrizio il  migliore consiglio che potesse dare per il suo giardino: La Duchesse de Brabant. Una bellissima rosa, una macchina da guerra, sempre in fiore, soprattutto adatta ad ogni principiante. https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.1661.7

Sergio peró, sottovalutava il fatto che Fabrizio in pochissimo tempo  era in grado di recuperare anni di studi sulle rose. Lui, della Duchesse de Brabant, proprio non poteva reggere la forma a “Canoa”delle foglie, per non parlare del loro indecente colore menta giallastro. Continuava a far paragoni  con la ’ Rêve D’ Or’, non si dava pace, e, come volevasi dimostrare, la restituì al povero Sergio  che,  spremuto senza pietà, finalmente capì con chi aveva che fare.  Di conseguenza gli diede l’eccelsa e rara  ‘Gloire Bordeaux’/ Le Parré  https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.70974&tab=36 che é una rosa di cui ancora si discute sull’identità, ma il parere di Sergio e di John Hook (sono loro che la hanno identificata) é inequivocabile. Questa  rosa  é un semenzale di Gloire de Dijon e ne mantiene tutte le qualità, senza i suoi noti difetti (grossi), quindi, per me, una rosa tra le più belle in assoluto.

Qualche mese dopo, al buon Fabrizio gli venne l’ ossessione del color salmone-corallo, quindi nel suo delirio, si mise a studiare a tappeto, tutte le tè e le noisette (anche estinte!) alla ricerca disperata di un colore che, naturalmente, non esiste tra queste rose. Lui imperterrito non ne  volle sapere ragione, e cominció a fissarsi sulla Albertine (che piace a  tutti i principianti). Ma io e Sergio, con veemenza lo riportammo alla ragione, perché lui non poteva possedere una roba  tanto scontata e caramellosa. Finchè un giorno Fabrizio e la sua compagna Sandra si recarono dal povero  Sergio, che pur di liberasene gli consegna un esemplare di una rosa misteriosa ritrovata in Francia qualche anno prima.

Una probabile té/noisette vigorosissima,  sempre, ma proprio sempre in fiore, decisamente profumata ( Fabrizio  é  Sandra  sono particolarmente fissati con il profumo) fiori di circa 150 petali, che durante l’ anno subiscono cambiamenti proteiformi, le cromie vanno da un corallo saturo e vivido, per poi passare a un delicato salmone ( simile al’ colore di’ Duarte de Oliveira ’) Per poi virare in un rosa conchiglia,  fino ad arrivare all’ giallo oro pallido, quando il freddo inizia a lambirla.

É un rosaio che si copre di foglie ed non fa altro che crescere come una rambler, in 4 mesi é quadruplicata, abbracciando recinzione e balconi, con grazie e vigoria. I boccioli, cambiano forma passando dall’ ovale all’ appuntito, questi ultimi  fanno pensare a una tè/ibrido di tè, visto anche , l’ eccellente  profumo, la forma a coppa piatta e trabordante di petali sericei.

  P.S. Ho pregato i signori Fortuna  di concedermi una talea, promettendogli che per nulla al mondo non l'avrei mai moltiplicata.   La tale mi arriverà la settimana prossima. Il  più bel regalo di natale che potessi desiderare. Buon Natale a tutti!!!

it  is great to meet such a talented professional,and the professional relationship has turned into a friendship.


It is very stimulating to deal with  demanding people.   They want only the best, and pay attention to every single detail ,.

It all started when I saw a post where he had some unusual roses : 'Captain Christy climbing' (veuve Ducher, 1881 https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.960.1) the 'Delacroix' by Massad (https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.60495.2)


The first is a climbing mutation of an old hybrid tea ,which combines the best of both worlds, the re-flowering of the tea  roses , with its incredible and eery elegance, a combined with the strength and big flowers of the hybrid perpetuals. 

In this very  case the phenotype is clearly Hybrid perpetual , therefore, it bears  large flowers, laden with petals, in  a peony style (for those not familiar with the old rose style ). On the the other hand it inherits  the sheer elegance of the Tea rose and the more refined shrubs,with a sumptuous scent.


The second rose is  dedicated to the famous French painter bred by Massad a, modern hybridizer, who is reknown for his reflowering  Rambler which unlike modern climbers which Bloom only on  top,

 I recognised a very peculiar and refined taste by looking at These 2 roses, and I started to help him.

 The nurseryman which sold him the roses  ,did not explain him , on how to prepare a proper planting hole  or the social distancing between one and the other, and therefore they did not grow, certainly also due to the average quality of the plants he had bought.

And then, I lost, as usual, a good opportunity to shut up :))), from there ,began a fleet of questions about the various roses, which I was already used  to, while I was doing for Matteo La Civita his antique rose consultant . Therefore I'm used to super demanding, very precise people, whom I adore


 The hardest thing was to manage the tide of photos of his small garden, underlined with various fluorescent highlighters to find the righ spot,  and having dyspraxia it is a real torture.

And hence , endless discussions, were about that a normal person would run away. is present, and with the same placidity as an Englishman drinking his hot water dirty with dry leaves at five, while London is bombed by the Nazi . I face these  endless discussions,because   Fabrizio is not one to be bullshitted.

He is the type who reads everything you need to read 

to know on the subject from A to Z in one night, . Being interrogated by the Mossad  is far more relaxed like is a friendly and warm chat with your pals.

It is this  very terrible side of him that I adore,  and a sign of this talent .

The ability of a planthunter is to understand when to contact a more competent person.

. I told him to go to the nursery with the best assortiment of the  Chinesis section.

This nursery is called S'Orrosa which, together with John Hook (la rosaraie du désert), are the greatest experts in this family of elegant , ancient, heat-resistant and extremely remontant.

With gain 3 seasons with his plants . 

The big problem with these roses is that they have to build their scaffolding of Branches (which act as a thermal insulator) in order to get almost abandoned. 

Generally they are poorly pruned by nurseryman and therefore it takes years to get good results, something that does not happen with Sergio's plants, and they become amazing shrubs, dressed in leaves and  cushionshaped, unlike the modern ones that look very well in pots. when you buy them to then become poles with big cabbages on them (and Mortisia, it takes over me). I'm exaggerating there are some excellent modern ones, but often not so perfect for our climate as the chinensis section which stops at the end of July (when not even a lizard is out) if not irrigated and from September until Christmas they bloom more than in spring, with all the colors of sunrise and sunset in a variety of colors, always different, but always elegant. With Sergio's plants, this expectation for this wonder is drastically reduced. . In the meantime, I had advised him ’Rêve d ’Or’, which means dream of gold, or even better dream in gold. Undoubtedly the best climber, withstands the most excruciating heat (in fact it is still used now as a parent, to create hybrids that resist the Indian heat), good resistance to cold and good tolerance to half shade.  

Each branch is perfect, like each leaf, perfect for Fabrizio's pscilogy where everything must be perfect For me a Sergio's advice is gold, and his knowledge is the non plus ultra and like any quality nurseryman he is a bad seller and a psychologist ... Now in December the flowers are almost yellow. The buds are reminiscent of a tea / tea hybrid and smells good. It is one of the most beautiful Chinensis roses I have ever seen and it is spectacular.
