an online rose reference and breeder obscured by the net

Siamo tutti un pò superstiziosi per l' ultimo dell' anno , e perfino il razzionalista più incallito , nello strato più profondo dell  suo pessimismo si sveglia e per un nanosecondo, prima Che il cervello , si azioni si aspetta un nuovo inizio dove si é cosparsi di paillettes e petali di rose rosse Che cascano dal cielo e una multitudine di persone Che ballano e Che cantano come se fosse un musical , e Che tutti cantano Che Bella sará la tua vita d ' ora in poi e Che tutti I tuoi problemi spariranno. Non é vero, ma tutti in fondo in fondo ci credono e un pò si detestano per questo , ma tutti speriamo in un nuovo inizio, malgrado sia tutto un pò puerile, ma é la natura

umana.
Quest anno si chiude con una brutta notizia, dal primo gennaio il sito di Paul Barden, verrá oscurato.
Forse pochi conoscono chi sia, ma il suo sito é essenziale, sia per le rose da lui, ibridate che dalle rose  da lui selezionate da rose non commerciali Che hanno un potenziale assurdo.
Molte rose del sito sono rose di Ralph Moore. Un genio, assolutamente incompreso. Lui é conosciuto, assieme al Catalano Pedro Dot, per le miniatura.

Il problema é che le miniatura, sono viste come una sorta di prodotto secondario, da disprezzare, specialmente in Europa e in particolarmente in Italia.
Penso che sia principalmente colpa delle Meillandine ,miniature fatte da Meilland che spopolarono, nei primi anni novanta, ma erano considerate come un sottoprodotto volgare. Qualcuna era anche carina come Air France Meillandina e Peach Meillandina. Ma sinceramente orange Meillandina non si poteva vedere e fino agli anni duemila le versioni climbing  spopolarono . Poi le rose da patio di Poulsen , coltivate in Serra e vendute dai fioristi. Obbietivamente capisco perché molti europei, pensino siano delle porcherie.
La moda delle David Austin é esplosa in contrapposizione a queste rose standardarizzate, da serra e senza anima. Ma in fondo sono anche loro un prodotto confezionato, anche se poetico. Le rose di David Austin sono grandi, ma come le rose di Pemberton, non sono che il perfezionamento sublime Della genialità del lavoro fatto da altri, (Lambert , tedesco senza il cui lavoro non esisterebbero le moscate). La genialità  é anche perfezionare le invenzioni altrui tanto da renderle comprensibili al pubblico, cioé l opera di volgarizazione.
 Le miniature, sono le uniche rose, veramente adatte alla sempre maggiore scomparsa degli spazi verdi, sono molto più sane di tutte le altre rose. E sono adatte al vaso . Che senso ha coltivare rose a fiore grosso in vaso o anche molte David Austin, solo per sognare la presunta campagna inglese, mentre si ha un balcone in periferia, con delle rose sofferenti? Avere cose adatte, a degli spazi verdi sempre più ridotti, senza per forza avere cose dozinali . In USA ci sono appunto dei lavori molto belli sulle miniature che hanno tutu come base Moore.Le rose miniature sono purtroppo le rose del futuro  visto gli spazi ristretti: sono le uniche vere rose democratiche, per tutti. Mi domando come i vivaisti italiani non le valorizzino. Quando facevo il venditore di rose a Milano ad orticola sia con La campanella che con i vivai Glorio, realmente non capivo perché i Milanesi si ostinavano a volere comprare rose inadatte per i loro balconi, e non accettare di non vivere in un parco ma in un balcone  Si possono appunto avere cose geniali ma appropriate al proprio spazio.


Moore era un alchimista e riuscí a trasmettere la variegatura di una rosa antica come Ferdinand Pichard nelle rose miniature, e poi sucessivamente nelle rose moderne in generale.
Ma l alchemista Moore non si fermó a questo ma riuscí ad ottenere delle muscose miniature rifiorenti, facendo dopo immani fatiche , come Harkness per produrre gli ibridi di Hulthemia, Che altri resero commerciali abbastanza da renderle popolari
La genialità di Moore é  stata anche di usare la rosa Bracteata, rosa gigantesca sarmentosa, per ibridare delle miniature , sanissime . La B é molto riluttante a incrociarsi
Riuscí anche a ottenere una cosa impossible un ibrido di Bracteata muscoso e rampicante.
il sito di Barden lo spiega in maniera dettagliata Ed é una manna per conoscere tutto quello Che si deve sapere sulle rose. Poi inventò la prima Vera rosa rugosa gialla gialla e l arancione .
Le sue ivridazioni sono anche esse geniali come del resto la prima rosa gallica giallastra, ha continua to a creare nuove galliche quando non era popolare il , e usava le rose inglesi per ottenere delle galliche non rifiorenti . E I suoi lavori seguendo le Orme di Moore , e diffondendo I capolavori di altri ibridatori di miniatures come le profumatissime mini profumate come una Damasco di Saville.
Nel suo vivaio fu il primo a vendere e collezioanare le rose color caffé diventate poi di moda grazie a Terracotta commercializzata da meilland o hot cocoa. Grazie all inspiration di Kim Rupert fu uno dei primi a proporle. Purtroppo come con I vintage gardens che sono stati in Farò nel mondo delle rose  Prima l abbandono della carriera di ibridatore e ora la chiusura del sitib,, assieme alla chiusura del mitico Vintage Gardens, sono state le un simbolo che qualcosa sta cambiando in negativo. Entrambi non riuscivano piú a vivere del loro lavoro e dovettero chiudere. IN EUROPA NON é molto meglio  sò di vivai importanti che chiuderanno a breve come la roseraie du désert e un altro famosissimo che non posso nominare. Paul Nel 2014 smise di ibridare e da oggi chiude il sito, am vi svelero come riuscire a vederlo lo stesso. Auguri

We are all a bit superstitious for  the new year thing. Even  the most cynical on the deepest layer of his pessimism, wakes up the first of January and for a nanosecond before the brain kicks in, he expects a new beginning scattered with glitter and petals of red roses Falling from the skies ,with people dancing and singing as a cheap Broadway musical. Happy endings ( in a Hollywood way not something else ),people loves you, and you will be a happy millionaire.

 It is  f not true, but all deep down we believe in these b......s .We hate that,we pretend we don talso hate it , but we  all hope for a new beginning, and although it is all a bit puerile, but it is human nature.

 This year closes with bad news, from 1st January the site of Paul Barden will be obscured.  Perhaps few know who he is, but his site is essential, both for roses that he hybridises and roses he has selected from non-commercial roses that have an absurd potential.

Many roses on the site are by Ralph Moore, a genius. Completely misunderstood.  He is known, together with the Catalan Pedro Dot, for miniatures.

 The problem is that miniatures are seen as a sort of secondary product, to be despised, especially in Europe and particularly in Italy.

 David Austin's fashion exploded as opposed to these standardized, greenhouse and soulless roses.

 The roses of David Austin are great, but like the roses of Pemberton, they are nothing but the sublime perfection of the ingeniousness of the work done by others, (Lambert, German grower, without whose work there would not exist the Moschata roses).

 The genius is also to perfect the inventions of others so much to make them understandable to the public, that is the work of vulgarisation.

miniatures are the only roses really suitable for the ever greater disappearance of green spaces, they are much healthier than all the other roses and suitable for vases.

 What is the point of cultivating large-flowered roses or even many David Austin s suffering in pots, just to dream the fantasy of the English countryside, while just having a balcony in the suburbs ? Growing roses suitable for the environment does not mean having boring and industrial roses of very little interest .

> In the USA there are some very good works on breeding miniatures that are influenced by Ralph Moore. miniatures are unfortunately the roses of the future given the narrow spaces: they are the only true democratic roses, for everyone.

 When I was a rose vendor in Milan with La campanella and the Glorio nurseries, I really did not understand why people from Milan persisted in wanting roses which were unsuitable for their balconies. They did  not to accept not to live in a park but in a balcony you can just have things that are a TRUE masterpiece but appropriate to your space. A balcony if well planted can become a true jewel, sometimes nicer than a park or a garden. Less is more

 Moore was an alchemist in a way ,and managed to convey the variegation of an ancient rose as Ferdinand Pichard in the miniature roses, and then later in modern roses in general.

 But the alchemist Moore did not stop at this but managed to get some reflowering miniature mosses after immense labors.  He can be compared with Harkness which the epic Battle of creating the Hultemia hybrids. These epic work has been  made commercial enough by other breeders to make them popular 

 The genius of Moore was also to use the Rosa Bracteata, gigantic rambler rose  to cross it with 

miniatures , to get them more Disease resistant.

 He also managed to get  climbing Bracteata Mosshybrid.

 the Barden site explains it in detail. It is a lighthouse in the rose world .everything you need to know about roses  is there .and a crying shame it is closing.

 His hybridisations are also brilliant, as was the first yellowish Gallica rose he bred, he continued to create new Gallicas when it was not popular, and he used English roses to Backcross it with  Gallicas.
 And his works follow the footsteps of Moore, and spreading the masterpieces of other miniatures hybridizers like the fragrant mini-perfumed like a Damak rose by Saville
 In his nursery, he was the first to sell and collect coffee-colored roses that became later fashionable thanks to Terracotta marketed by meilland or hot cocoa.
 Thanks to Kim Rupert's inspiration, he was one of the first to offer it.
The closure of the website along with the closing of the legendary Vintage Gardens are a symbol that something is changing for the worse.

In europe meanwhile it is not much better either - I know of important nurseries that will close soon such as the roseraie du désert and another very famous one  I cannot name. In 2014 paul stopped hybridising and today he closes his site. However, I might have some tricks that will enable us to see it, I’ll let you know next time!
